Race update from the race director for TMBT 2014 and Hasuu Tasuu Trail Run 2014. Good morning competitors. We are 12 hours away from presenting you with this years finalized race course for the TMBT 100K and revised 50k race course and the revised 25k race course for the Hasuu Tasuu Trail Run. Please check the official TMBT 2014 dropbox folder at 9.00pm onwards for: -RACE COURSE MAP FOR TMBT 2014 (100k, 50k categories) and 25k category Hasuu Tasuu -Race data for each category with elevation gain, distance between check points, location of Water Stations vs Check Points. Please note goggle earth does not always present the most accurate of data so we are relying on our GPS devices to calculate the race course data. Please note runners are reminded portions of the race course remain OFF LIMITS to competitors/non competitors as these are private lands and not for public use. Some areas have hunting activities and hunting traps as well as massive jungle clearing going on at the moment (burning) and it is unsafe to enter these areas without approval and without knowledge of these areas. Some important points to take note of: TMBT 2014 UPDATE! -The 55k has been altered to a 50k race course due to some areas that we felt were best avoided for safety reasons and have such cut off a number of sections from the race course. You dont however escape from the 3000 meters of elevation gain of climbing up a number of hills and mountain sides. -For 100k runners, you will have at least 3 food stations along the race course serving rice, vegetable dishes, a meat dish and vegetable soup. We have requested the caterers not to use any MSG for the meals. -For 50k runners, you will have 1 food station along he race course serving rice, vegetable dishes, a meat dish and vegetable soup. We have requested the caterers not to use any MSG for the meals. -All competitors will be issued with a timing chip wristband. Please ensure you have the wrist band on when you board your buses or leave home to go to the start line. Runners who turn up without the wrist band will not be allowed to compete in the race and will be unranked. -All 100k runners must pass us their DROP BAG during registration on Friday, 15th August 2014. We will have mini vans parked in the parking area of Pacific Sutera Harbour to assist with the transfer. Please note the collection of the drop bags begins at 11.00am-5.00pm only. The weight of each drop bag should not be in excess of 6kg. All bags will be weighed before we accept them and the baggage tag you will be given specifically for the drop bag MUST be attached with your bag. We do not have spare luggage tag so if you lose your tag, you are in trouble. -All TMBT runners are strongly urged to use long tights for the race as you will be passing through jungle sections on the course on the first half of the race course. If you wish to switch to shorts on the second half of the race course and can tolerate cooler temperatures at night, this may be possible but we are leaving it up to you on this. -Please note we are expecting gale force winds over the early part of August as Typhoon Season it seems has come early this year. The Philippines has been hit by 2 typhoons with a 3rd inbound and we do feel the effects of strong cold winds and heavy rain from time to time with winds gusting up to 40-60 kilometers per hour and temperatures dropping to 13 deg celcius on the 2nd half of the race course section. -We once again would like to remind ALL 100K runners that the mininum lumens for the event is 80 but we encourage you to invest in better headlamps with greater range and lighting. There are some sections on the night section on the second half of the race course which have been damaged due to bad weather and land slides with massive drops down the side of the ridge. Not only are we advising runners to be aware of where they are walking on the course but also be aware there are these massive drops on the paths and runners need to stay focused on where they walk and to watch the direction they are walking on the race course especially when fatigued/tired/sleepy. -There are a number of village halls on the race course for you to rest in for the second half of the race course but bear in mind it is your responsibility to meet the cut off times and get to the finish line before the set deadlines. -Do NOT steal food meant for the marshalls and volunteers. Any runner caught doing so will be immediately disqualified from the race without hesitation. HASUU TASUU TRAIL RUN 2014 UPDATE! -The 28k has been altered to a 23.5k race course (closer to 25k depending on which GPS device you use) due to some areas that we felt had the potential risk of flooding very quickly in the event of a severe storm in a particular gully. By removing this section, the race course has therefore reduced to the shorter distance but you still have a total elevation gain of about 1360 meters of climbing up hills and mountain sides so it does not detract from an other wise lovely race course with a different view of Mount Kinabalu from the Bundu Tuhan valley. -Hasuu Tasuu Trail Runnners may drop the bowl/cup/spoon requirement from their mandatory kit list effective immediately. -For Hasuu Tasuu Trail Runners, youre new STARTING location is the junction leading down to Bundu Tuhan, along the Ranau-Tamparuli highway. The race start time is 7.30am and all runners must be at the start line no later than 7.00am. You will be issued with timing chip wristbands along with your race bibs during registration. You MUST have your timing chips scanned upon arrival at the START line by our 2 marshalls wearing the yellow safety bib. If you do NOT come to the start line with your timing chip wrist band, you wont be able to start the race or finish the race officially. Please pass us 1 bag for the finish line weighing not more than 6kg at the START line. We will have 2 mini vans to assist with the transfer of your finish line bags to be sent to the finish line. We will weigh all bags passed to us and will not accept bags weighing more than 6kg at the START line. Transportation options for competitors who need assistance for HTTR 2014: A) For competitors who are DRIVING to the Start line from KK, please park your cars at KOKTAS parking area opposite the entrance to Kinabalu Park HQ. You should walk to the start line (less than 1km) and use it as a warm up ahead of the start. We will assist to send you back to the KOKTAS parking area after the race. You may register your names at the registration desk for THIS transfer on the 15th August 2014. Please note, the vans will depart and will not wait for late arrivals. B) For competitors who DID NOT drive to Kundasang but need transport to the start line, we will have shuttle vans parked in front of the roundabout facing the main highway at 6.30am. Please come to the departure point at least 10-15 minutes before hand. If you have a travel bag or finish bag, bring the bag with you and the vans will drop your finish bags off first at the finish line at Mount Kinabalu Heritage Resort & Spa before departing for the START LINE. You may register your names at the registration desk for THIS transfer on the 15th August 2014. Please note, the vans will depart and will not wait for late arrivals. We regret we cannot do special drop offs at resorts and other locations due to the number of competitors involved in the race this year so please plan ahead appropriately.
