Racism is about Power. Racism isnt just about not liking someone because of a perceived identification based on a particular physical characteristic---but is about the control and influence over the life and livelihood of those characterized. People of color can stand on a sidewalk, whether real or virtual as on these internet streets, and say hateful things to people who identify as white until they are blue in the face, but they are still not in a position to affect those peoples ability to find housing, work, education, or other resources, and there in lies the key primary issue of contemporary and continuing racism against a people who comprise only 13% of a population of the country built on the genocide of the First Nation and the enslavement of another. Ignoring history doesnt make you noble and doesnt mean you are enlightened. History is not an excuse to wallow in anger or ignorance. You can strive to expand beyond the boxes in which others may wish to place you, but never cease remembering the accomplishment of overcoming those boundaries.
