Rada approves the hosting of multi-national drills with EU and NATO partners in 2014 Kyiv, April 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) - The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraines legislature, has passed a bill approving a Presidential decree to allow other countries armed forces to enter Ukraine in 2014 in order to participate in multi-national drills. A total of 235 deputies voted in favor of the law. The law proposes setting the number of participants in such exercises on the Ukrainian side at 2,500 and a similar number from partner states, Acting Defense Minister Mykhailo Koval said at a meeting before the vote. The main purpose of the exercises is to prepare to participate in international peacekeeping and security operations, as well as humanitarian and search operations on land and water, and to defend our country. Former Defense Minister Oleksandr Kuzmuk of the Economic Development faction said that such exercises would be conducted from May to November in southern Ukraine, in Mykolaiv Oblast, on the Black Sea, and in the western regions – at bases in Yavoriv, Lviv Oblast and Uzhhorod, Zakarpattia Oblast. A bill was submitted by Verkhovna Rada Speaker and acting President Oleksandr Turchynov and registered on March 26 as #4561. To approve a Presidential decree to admit the armed forces of other states on Ukrainian territory in 2014 to participate in Ukrainian-Polish aviation exercises involving squadrons, the Law and Order 2014 Ukraine-Poland exercises involving military police units, the Rapid Trident 2014 Ukraine-US exercises, the Safe Skies 2014 Ukraine-Poland exercises of aviation groups, the Sea Breeze 2014 Ukraine-US exercises, the Light Avalanche 2014 multinational exercises, the Carpathians 2014 multinational exercises involving mountaineering infantry units, and the South 2014 Ukraine-Moldova-Romania exercise involving mechanized units, reads the document. The law comes into force on the date of its publication.
