Radical Islam Explored at Lifetree Café Why Islamic radicals hate America and the West will be discussed at Lifetree Café on Thursday, Aug. 14th at 7:00 PM. Doors open at 6:30 for fellowship & refreshments. The program, titled “Why Do They Hate Us? Understanding Radical Islam,” features filmed interviews with Middle East experts Carl Medearis and Gregory Johnsen, as well as best-selling author Mark Bowden (Black Hawk Down and The Finish: The Killing of Osama Bin Laden). “There are 1.7 billion Muslims in the world, and far less than 1 percent might be radical enough to become terrorists,” says Medearis, an advisor on Arab affairs to members of the U.S. Congress. Medearis, who lived for a dozen years in Beirut, identifies key forces that lead to radicalizing Muslims and suggests how common ground might be found. Admission to the 60-minute event is free. Snacks and beverages are available. Lifetree Café is located at First Presbyterian Church of Coalinga 475 Sunset Street in Coalinga.
