Playing songs from their new 2014 CD release At Kriol Junction it will be a night of sublime musical majic And, of all the superlatives that their delightfully open, brilliantly sunshine sound has prompted, the band themselves have come up with the best description - where beatbox meets berimbau and Brazil greets Banjul. (Nige Tassell WOMAD BBC R3 Stage) ‘At Kriol Junction’ showcases fresh new music buzzing with attitude, energy and cross-cultural resonance, featuring this wonderful band’s regulars working with talented musicians, singers & rappers from the UK’s growing Arts & Refugees networks and beyond. A truly collaborative initiative, mindful of heritage but pushing at the boundaries of live contemporary world music and its messages for today, ‘At Kriol Junction’ is the meeting place for exciting new multi-language pieces created in response to the Rafikian babble of international voices & brilliantly unlikely instrumental mixes, and to inspirational texts from the seminal and very topical 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Each song in this adventurous set has been conceived, arranged, rehearsed and recorded live in an intense 1-day studio encounter, capturing the vibrancy of the moment. Rafiki Jazz onstage is something else..those deep & joyous CD moments spring to life afresh, making for gripping and hypnotic dance tracks and a truly groundbreaking new cultural fusion of world roots music.
