Ragging –A Curse Engineering & Medical Fresher Fresher’s tremble ,parents shiver & management puzzle at the very word of RAGGING .While seniors support ragging ,fresher’s oppose .On positive side, Ragging is a good ice –breaking between seniors & freshers ,On negative side ,Ragging is a cruel fun .Ragging laws are stringent to punish the culprit with dismissal from the college or fine & imprisonment .Understand the ideology behind.& behave accordingly . “Ragging has become synchronous with teasing, terror ,harassment cruelty ,fear & torture .An accused student must be given a chance to explain 7 if his explanation is unsatisfactory ,the student must be expelled ”.says the Supreme court of India .The Supreme court directed educational institutions to put down the ragging with an iron hand & suspend students including this activity .It was asked regulatory authorities to reduce grant – in aid to institution that tried to shield the culprits. A bench of justice Arjit Prasad and justice Mukadam Sharma gave this direction on the basis of report submitted by a committee constituted by supreme court under the chairmanship of a former CBE director , RK Raghvan. The Supreme court said the union and the state governments should act in accordance with the guidelines formulated by the committee .The regulatory authorities like Medical Council of India (MCI),the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) , the Pharmacy Council of India(PCI) and Bar Council of India (BCI),in consultation with the University Grant Commission (U.G.C.) framed regulations which should be binding on every educational institution . To avid ragging ; every institute should follow the preventive measures . For sportive and peaceful ragging - Have ragging on win-win basis (both seniors & freshers should enjoy) 1. They should not act over act. Try to be sportive and cool ,when they are ragged. 2. Set noble goals for their life and live above mean pleasure . 3. Do not create a situation that embarrasses their parents or managements. 4. They should hold a fresher’s day as early as possible. They institution should be 100% free from ragging . Every institution should take all preventive measures in curbing ragging menace . Every institute should display the posters and signboard about the effects and it’s punishments and prohibition of ranging and consequences of ragging involvement as per ragging committee ,secret vigilance committee should be appointed to curb the ragging. All the AICTE approved institution should implement the following ; 1. The institution should erect suitable hording ,billboard/banners showing about evil effects and imprisonments of ragging in prominent place within the campus to prevent ragging. 2. All educational institution should from anti-ragging committee and wardens and counselors . 3. Affidavit must be obtained from every students, parents /guardian separately as per clause 5, sub clause 3and 4 of AICTE regulation 4.The institution may undertake any other from of campaign for prevention of ragging
