Rahul Gandhi had said once in one of the training sessions, that Congress is the default program for Indian elections. It is an underlying truth of this nation, and most of us know it to be so. Therefore the tug of war in our elections essentially are between two teams and that is the enchanted vs the disenchanted with the Congress. The enchanted team includes also those who are willing to give it yet another chance to recover its lost ground even if due to its own follies, and stand up once again. The disenchanted are those who say, anyone else I will vote for, but not you, the Congress anymore. Essentially at the time of independence and later, the majority of our populace believed they owed a lot to the team of iconic personalities led by the Mahatma MK Gandhi, who brought independence to this country with an all inclusive approach. The designated one, appointed from this original team to lead our nation, by none other than the Mahatma himself held the reins pretty well, as we all know, to give a start. That he was not entirely averse to his daughter entering politics is also well known. The dynasty ensued as a result of the above, as people of this nation believed they owed a lot, not only to the iconic figure of the original team, who held the nation together under his rein, but his family members too, provided they were eager to throw in their hat into the political arena. That over these long years of Congress rule some amount of disenchantment would arise at some points of time intervals, is not entirely surprising to any one, including the Congress members as well. In this regard, Modi knows the above too. He knows that if he were to win the elections, it is this disenchanted group who would tilt the scales in his favor. Provided he does not engage in pronounced religious fervent that some of his fore fathers engaged in, they would in all probability assist him stay for long, if he goes on to do the right things. election after election. He was therefore constrained to adopt Shri Vallabhai Patel from the original team of Indian freedom oriented icons, as his iconic inspiration. He announced building a very tall statue, even if he knew, it could be never be as tall as the icon himself otherwise. It would help build a mirage of a stronger and more forceful team to challenge the dynasty and its team, what with the presently disenchanted with the congress appearing to egg him on, besides his core team of BJP followers. How many turncoats emerge, would be there for all of us to see, once the election results are announced and say, does not go his way, in this very election itself.
