Railsplitter Tre Mullins shot a tournament record. GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Lincoln Memorial’s Tre Mullins shot a tournament-record six-under par 65 to take the first round lead at the 2013 Tusculum College Fall Classic, which is being held at the par-71, 6,763-yard Link Hills Country Club. LMU posted a tournament record team score of 272 (-11), six shots ahead of host Tusculum, who tied a school-record with its six-under par team tally of 278 on Monday. Tennessee Wesleyan is third with 287, while Walters State is fourth at 289. Spartanburg Methodist is fifth with 291, followed by Milligan (293), Brevard (294), Catawba (295), Lincoln Memorial B (296), Mars Hill (298), Lenoir-Rhyne (300) and USC Lancaster (306). Mullins posted a one-under par 34 on his opening nine holes and followed that with a sizzling five-under 31 on his inward nine to break the previous Classic record of 66, held by four others, including LMU teammate Rand Wasson. Wasson shot a 66 in last year’s second round of the Fall Classic and posted another 66 today and is one-shot behind Mullins. Wasson opened with a four-under par 31 on his outward nine. Mullins’ 65 is also tied for the sixth-best individual score by a South Atlantic Conference golfer. In conjunction with the women’s tournament that is held simultaneously with the men’s event, a combined championship is awarded to the school with the lowest aggregate combined score by its men and women’s teams. Lincoln Memorial has a 20-shot lead for the combined championship as the LMU men and women posted a 582. Tusculum is second with 602, followed by Mars Hill (622), Catawba (627), Lenoir-Rhyne (635) and Spartanburg Methodist (683). The final round of the eighth annual Tusculum Fall Classic begins at 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday.
