Rainbow Report - August, 2013 Rainbow Centre will be closed Monday, August 5th for the Civic Holiday. Have a safe and happy long weekend! On Thursday, August 15th @ noon, the Rainy River District Transportation Services Consortium will be offering the First Rider Program, which has been developed to help the very young first time school bus riders calm concerns they may have about riding a school bus. This fun learning experience is also a good opportunity to teach them about school bus safety. The ride will start and end at the Rainbow Family Centre and will run approximately 40 minutes. To register, call 1-807-274-6664 or 1-800-214-1753, ext. 5040 before 4:00pm, Thursday, August 1st. While the weather is warm and sunny now, fall and winter are just around the corner, and with that comes registration for winter activities. This year, registration nights will take place at Little Falls Recreation Centre on Tuesday, September 10 and Wednesday, September 11. Kidsport will once again be teaming up with the Town of Atikokan to host the FUNZONE in conjunction with the winter registration nights. Activities, free giveaways, and program information will be available. Keep an eye open in our September newsletter for more information. Remember to check out kid friendly activities during August 12-16 as part of the Atikokan Bass Classic. On July 25th our school age children participated in Science North at the Public Library. They got to meet tarantulas, scorpions and snakes, and enjoyed a variety of cool science activities! At the Rainbow Centre, children go outside twice a day (weather permitting), and partake in frequent field trips in the summer months during which time they are exposed to the sun. As part of teaching children about sun safety, we will be starting a reward system for children who bring hats. A chart will be posted in each room with your child’s name on it. Every day your child attends and brings a hat, they will put a sticker next to their name. At the end of the week, children who have brought a hat each day will receive a reward. This will also help teach children responsibility and ownership of staying safe and healthy. A friendly reminder, Monthly payments are due on the 20th of each month. Having trouble paying your bill on time? Consider dropping off a post dated cheque earlier in the month and cross it off your ‘to do’ list. Children return to school Tuesday, August 27th, 2013. We realize that this can be a difficult time, especially for children just starting school. Please drop by the office to ensure your monthly contracts are correct to avoid any unnecessary stress during this week.
