Raising 5 kids, tonight I think past race, past gender, past class, I look at the heart of the matter, I look at again someone has lost a child, and that one fact alone makes me hurt. I could never imagine losing one of Gods best gifts I could have ever have been given in life. In both of these cases we find ways to drill past the facts that one life was taken for no reason, regardless of color, sometimes it seems as though the bigger the deal is made of a case, the more likely the people are to get off. Both sides of the racial barriers have seen this. We cannot rejoice in injustice no matter what race benefits. I am not trying to stir your emotions but the truth is the truth. I pray a covering over my 5. I pray a calming spirit in the land, and should God choose judge, He will in His own time. Some trials are to work our patience. Rage is easy. Parents of young African American boys, I will need you to educate your sons on how to respond to officers of the law of any color. Attitude, back talk, and sharp gestures are not your friend when dealing with people whos life is on the line every second of their day, and may have a skewed perception of you as a person. I am blessed to have Mike Simmons constantly telling my boys how to act when pulled over, what to do, what not to do. Yes your rights maybe infringed upon from time to time, but you live to see another day, and fight it out in court. I have had to bite my tongue a time or 2, but I gave them no reason to do more than what they were going to do anyway, cuff me and search me and my car anyway. Keep insurance, current DL, Tags right, obey the speed limit and watch them let you go should you follow a few humble rules. This does not work in every case, but since I got my life together I have had far less run ins with the law. Again let us not forget that tonight a family hurts all over again, as well I am sure the Martins are reliving their hurt. Thats my take, just wish this country could see past the color and deal with the issues.
