Raja Swamyposted toAll India Secular Forum Modi effect: how Modi fascist government treats victims of 2002 - by evicting them in 2013 - from the slums they were driven to when their homes were destroyed. // We are conscious that many citizens of the brighter world would loathe being reminded of the darker side, on the occasion of Diwali. But standing in the twilight, we at Truth of Gujarat cannot help it. We are getting dragged into another struggle for the survival of around 2500 families who have been given notice of eviction by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation without providing any alternative accomodation. Shockingly, they have been asked to vacate their chaalis after the Diwali for making another road (of development)! The history of these 2500 or so families, who are now terrified of their uncertain future, are part of the 20000 or so families who were displaced during and after the riots of 2002. They had to leave their original place of residence due to the threat to their life and property after the massacre of the Muslims in Naroda Patiya and Gulbarg society. Muslims who were living in small groups started moving into an area known as the Bombay Hotel area near Chandola lake in Ahmedabad. This area is used as a dumping ground of the dirt of the city by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. Surrounded by dirt, filth and mosquitoes, since 2002 a new slum came up in this area that houses over twenty thousand families now. It is a great irony that the poor Muslims had to find security in the dirt and squalor of the city. This new found security has once been again shattered as the Corporation has decided to expand the road widths. The new road of development would displace 2500 families who have been given notices of eviction. Unke ghar jalakar aur kisike ghar diwali manaya jayega! (Their houses would be in flames to light the Diwali for others) --Read More At: truthofgujarat/say-happy-diwali-beyond-lights/ // truthofgujarat/say-happy-diwali-beyond-lights/
