Rakaia gut fishing for me today it is a nice change to fish the river mouth for a change and catch up with familiar faces and also meet new ones for the first time. Fishing the gut can be a very productive way of fishing for salmon very fresh sea run salmon that are in physical prime condition are exceptional fighting. The ocean tides play a big role as to were and when the fish be caught be it they travel in with the incoming tide or caught on the turn and fish with suitable tackle accordingly to the conditions. Today i was fishing with zeddy as the tide was on the push up the river mouth and standing mid way down the gut along some edge water. I personally prefer to fish the turn of the tide going back out with medium Colorado spoons long trace and a lead weight around 30grams and this method proved its self once again today for me with a solid hook up on this nice jack salmon and also dropping another.
