Rally and Press Conference in Central Park/Columbus Circle, NYC June 26, from 5-6 p.m. In Defense of Animals and GooseWatch NYC will hold a press conference and rally at the Central Park entrance by Columbus Circle (W. 59th Street and Central Park South), to speak out against the killing of Canada geese in New York City parks, and to announce support from Ken Paskar, President of Friends of La Guardia Airport and former lead safety representative for the FAA Safety Team. Mr. Paskar will address the fallacy that killing geese improves aviation safety and reduces bird strikes. Speakers will also include Anja Heister, Director of the Wild and Free-Habitats Campaign at In Defense of Animals, GooseWatch NYC’s David Karopkin, Edita Birnkrant, NY Director of Friends of Animals and NYC Wildlife Advocate Mary Beth Purdy Artz. Additional notable speakers will be announced. Since 2010, IDA has spoken out against the massive and widespread round-up and killing of thousands of Canada geese by US Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services agents under a contract with the City of New York, allegedly to reduce aircraft bird strikes.
