Friendship should be surrounded with ceremonies & respects, not crushed into corners. Friendship requires more time than poor busy men [or women] can usually command. He who has a thousand friends has not a friend to spare, And he who has one enemy will meet him everywhere. I awoke this morning with devout thanksgiving for my friends, the old and the new. It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them. The only way to have a friend is to be one. The ornament of a house is the friends who frequent it.
