Eid ul-Fitr 1436 AH: July 17, 2015 (Friday) The Astronomical New Moon is on July 16, 2015 (Thursday) at 1:24 Universal Time. (3:24 a.m. on July 16, Makkah time). On July 16, Thursday, sunset at Makkah is 7:06 p.m. and moonset is at 7:18 p.m. Moon is born before sunset, while moonset is after sunset. Therefore, first day of Shawwal, i.e., Eid ul-Fitr is July 17, Friday, inshaAllah. Eid ul-Adha 1436 AH: The Astronomical New Moon is on September 13, 2015 (Sunday) at 6:41 UT. September 14, 2015 (Monday) is expected to be the 1st day of Dhul Hijjah 1436. The day of Arafah – the main day of Hajj - is expected to be on September 22, 2015 (Tuesday) and so the Eidul Adha 1436 is expected on September 23, 2015 (Wednesday). Following its adopted current criteria for Eidul Adha, the Fiqh Council of North America announces that the final determination of the date of Eidul Adha will be contingent on the announcement by the Hajj authorities in Makkah of the day of ‘Arafah, in which case Eidul Adha will be the day following the day of Arafah.
