Ramadan Mubarak. Today’s Juz’ is Al-Naml [27]:56 – Al-‘Ankabut [29]:45. The themes covered in these ayat include (1) the majesty of God; (2) the life of Moses (birth to appeal to Pharaoh); (3) people’s freedom of choise; (4) God’s way of testing true believers; and (5) summary of the ministry of major messengers. The selected ayat for the day describe the reward of the righteous. “We grant the Home in the Hereafter to those who do not seek superiority on earth or spread corruption: the happy ending is awarded to those who are mindful of God. Whoever comes before God with a good deed will receive a better reward; whoever comes with an evil deed will be punished for what he has done.” (Al-Qasas [28]:83-84) Those who submit to God are fully aware that the world as it is now will not remain forever. In God’s own time, He will put an end to exploitation, oppression, disease, poverty, natural disasters and every other negative influence that makes life on earth so challenging. When all of earth’s vices are vanquished, God will establish an eternal Home where peace, blessings and love saturates the atmosphere. However, only those who have allowed God’s spirit to fill their actions will have the opportunity to experience this happy ending. Isa al-Masih provides a penetrating description of those who will inherit this kingdom. Listen: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets that were before you.” (Matthew 5:5-12) Prayer. In the name of God the merciful the compassionate, please keep me humble and fill me with so much of your grace that I will always be a conduit of your mercy to others. I thank you for your promise of reward, and I promise to serve you—not for the sake of reward—but because you have shown your love to me. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
