Ramallah: A Palestinian labourer died on Wednesday at Al Tayibah Crossing in the city of Tulkarem in the West Bank after being trampled on in a stampede caused by Israeli soldiers who fired tear gas bombs on thousands of Palestinian workers. The Crossing plunged into chaos as thousands of workers rushed out of their building all at once. When the madness ended, 40-year-old Ahmad Sameeh Budair, a construction worker from the village of Faoun of Tulkarem was dead and tens of others injured. Last week, Palestinian workers who make a daily commute from the West Bank to Israel for work held a strike to protest the unbearable humiliation and ill-treatment they endure by Israeli soldiers and guards at Al Tayibah Crossing of Tulkarem. The strike lasted for few days until Palestinian officials from the Palestinian-Israeli Civil Affairs Liaison Office intervened and convinced the workers to end the strike and return to work, promising to work with their Israeli counterparts to improve the conditions. “We have received several complaints from the workers and the issue has repeatedly been addressed with the Israeli side which usually gives empty promises of improvement,” sources in the Tulkaram government told Gulf News. When Palestinian workers complain or vocalise their agitation, they are met with tear gas from Israeli soldiers. Two workers have died in the past few years at the same crossing and hundreds have been injured. Palestinians have nicknamed the crossing ‘the death crossing’. gulfnews/news/region/palestine/labourer-dies-at-infamous-death-crossing-1.1434656#.VKQSmeFhrH0.facebook
