Ran across this just now and boy was I needing this...Attitude and Character. Ive made plenty of mistakes but my heart is pure. That I know is TRUTH and I will never ever sacrifice peace for truth. Thank you for true conviction and soul. And thank you to my ex RHS Basketball players who should know this sentiment well...BRENDA TOLBERT KING. Notice this sentiment speaks of pure intent and ambition. Its not contorted, twisted, self serving or egocentric. Simple TRUTHS. ATTITUDE Mental attitude is one of the most important factors in your life. What you think about and dream about determines who you become and what you do with your life. The future is yours, but the future will only become yours depending on what you accomplish today. You have to have a dream, a hero. Your mind is like a TV set, if there is no picture, it won’t happen. If you are trying to learn a jump shot, you must mentally analyze each part of the shot and then work at developing the physical skill. It is the struggle, the difficulty involved that motivates you and will develop you personality and character. Character is what you do when no one is around. If someone always has to tell you to work hard and practice, you have NO character. There is always someone better than you and that person is busy practicing while you sleep. There are players who are better shooters, better jumpers, quicker, stronger and smarter. But there should NEVER be anyone who has more enthusiasm than you or works harder than you. If there is, it is nobody’s fault but your own. Regardless of your natural talent, you can and MUST be first in something. Be the most enthusiastic person on the team, be the hardest worker, the most intense player. Be the first in line for a tough drill, the first off the bench to encourage a starter, the first player to be dressed for practice and the last one to leave. Time flies quickly away. Give what you have NOW, for what you save you lose, forever. It is not how many hours you practice, but how many minutes you practice. These minutes are what add up to a lifetime, so don’t waste any. If you do these things, then basketball will be of value to you, because it will be a means of expressing yourself and understanding others. The rewards gained from the self discipline and sacrifices for a common goal with other people will benefit you your entire life and make you and the people around you better people. If you cherish a basketball dribble it with your heart, and always give the game your very best. For it is only then you will be able to appreciate and understand the cheers and the tears and laughter that will bounce out of than basketball and into your life!!!!
