Randall, Our country is moving in an alarming direction and, propelled by ever increasing money from millionaires and billionaires, our democracy is at stake. Rulings like the Supreme Court’s in McCutcheon v. FEC could be the straw that breaks our political system’s back. Earlier this month, the Supreme Court struck down caps on the amount an individual can spend donating to candidates for office in a given cycle. Increasing the flow of cash into campaigns only increases the influence of money in politics. I am recruiting my colleagues to help restore these common sense limits, but I need you to demand Congress act right away. Letting even one race be swung by a single billionaire’s checkbook is unacceptable. Will you add your name to my petition now? Click here to call on Congress to restore common sense caps on contributions to keep unlimited money out of our politics. Whether we’re talking about reforming our broken immigration system, reviving American manufacturing to spur job creation or addressing runaway student loan interest rates, this is true: a broken campaign finance system undermines them all. The Supreme Court is systematically dismantling Congressional efforts to limit the influence of money in the political process. Unless we do something, I fear it won’t stop until there are simply no limits on money in politics. We cannot allow that to happen. It is up to us to work together and demand Congress act to keep unlimited money out. Will you help me do that now? Click here to join my call to keep unlimited money out of our campaigns. Congress won’t act unless you apply enough pressure. Thank you for helping defend our democracy. Best— Chris This email was sent to redm5954@rocketmail.
