Random Memories with approximate dates: 1977: Driving with you and Ken Bowen in his crappy blue plumber’s truck to get a huge Christmas tree for the old Dance Center on North Sheridan Road. (I was still living in the woods, in town for a visit.) 1978: Taking your technique class. You called my movement “mellifluous” and it was not a compliment. It was, however, a very diplomatic correction. 1979: Running sound for Amy’s “Naachanaa” at MoMing, and slowly cranking the volume to try to match the celebration happening on stage. 1980: Dancing Carol Bobrow’s part with you in “Skytale.” It was a joy. 1982+: Watching Student Performance Night from the tech booth while enjoying inappropriate refreshments. 1979-2004: Working closely with you, Shirley, and Jan to build programs and serve students at the Dance Center. Many conversations, and lots of parties. Some of the most satisfying work I’ve done. 1998-2003: The lovely tenure process. I appreciated your insights and support, and I still do. It was a pleasure to work with you, Richard. You were an important part of my life for a quarter of a century. I wish you the absolute best.
