Random Pick Of the Day: George Roy Hills adaptation of John - TopicsExpress

Random Pick Of the Day: George Roy Hills adaptation of John Irvings classic (and a finalist for National Book Award of Fiction (1979)) The World According to Garp. The third film for Robin Williams and his first dramatic role, shows his versatility as an actor. Glenn Close gives a super believable performance as his staunch (to a fault) feminist mother. Great cast all around, including film legends and husband and wife duo Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn. Although the film has a sense of hopelessness it still somehow remains an uplifting work. John Lithgow steals the show as a very large and ass kicking transvestite (playing the fictional role of a Philadelphia Eagle tight end) . Not for the faint hearted of real life as it prods deep into many of an ordinary lifes turmoils. A very different kind of epic film, yet epic nonetheless. youtube/watch?v=PGT-rY5Y06g
