Random, but Alex and I were talking about paying it forward so Id like to share a story. When we lived in Gainesville and Alice was just born, we were in a really tough spot. I hadnt been able to work and Alex was in school and had been trained for a job that didnt call him back. He dropped me off at Publix one day while he ran an errand and I carefully bought a few things to fill our very empty fridge. Apparently a check I had deposited didnt go through yet so when I went to check out, my card was declined. It was all I had. I fought back the tears as I realized, in this very busy line, with my stroller and week old child, that I had to walk away from my groceries because I couldnt pay for them. It was one of the most humiliating moments of my life, having to apologize to the clerk for putting them all back. Then the woman behind me pays for them. And comforts me. And wishes me well. Ill never forget that, and now that Im better off if I ever get the chance I will most certainly help someone out. Because I can. And thats reason enough. She didnt judge me, she just helped. If you have the ability to help ease someones suffering, even for a moment, why wouldnt you?
