Random event in the Nkomo household: Soon after we moved here, the head of the home mentioned that we needed to get the local newspaper so we would know what useful events are going on. I almost said, Well, Honey, that would be useless to you seeing as you dont know Afrikaans and I assume it would be in the local language. But I bit my tongue. A week or so later, we got it and the first thing he said was, But its in Afrikaans! I responded by telling him my thoughts from the other day and sat back, waiting for him to ask me to translate. Next thing I know, he excitedly exclaimed , I understand!!! I ran over, wondering if maybe they had snuck in an English article, or if he had suddenly gained the gift of tongues, only to find him laughing and pointing at a page likes the one below and saying to me (all proud of himself) See, these ones won an award! I understand what the article is about... Just dont ask me what the competition was for!
