Random fact: To all those of you who believe the movies and books and quite frankly anything else that makes you believe that what happens inside the prison system is unjust - think again. Yesterday, I spoke to Robert Luke, a former alcatraz inmate, and he says just the opposite. He said hes been in six prisons (including alcatraz for five years), and he never saw a guard treat a prisoner unjustly. He said they were all quite civil to each other since they were in this together after all. There was no beating prisoners (unless someone asked for it and deserved it), no rattling the bars with clubs (they didnt even have clubs), in fact, he said, the guards wore slippers on their feet when they went around at night so as not to disturb prisoners who might be sleeping. Just something to think about.
