Random stuff: no matter where you are on The Spectrum, neither you nor those around you will be able to predict when literal thinking will happen. Oh, you can learn a LOT about common metaphors, figures of speech, and the use of analogies, but that doesnt mean much when your brain locks on a specific word or phrase. For years, I couldnt follow most clothing stain removal instructions -- and get a lot of stains. But the instructions I got hold of always said, Put a clean cloth behind the stain. Where the heck was I supposed to get a stain-removal cloth, much less a clean one? What was I going to do, go to the fabric store and make my own? How big? What kind of fabric? Did it need hemming? Was cloth fresh from the store okay, or did I need to run it through the washer to meet the correct parameters for a clean cloth? It took me at least a couple of decades to find out that a towel or cleaning rag would do. In all that time, it never, ever occurred to me that a clean cloth meant pretty much anything made out of cloth that was clean and reasonably absorbent.
