Random thoughts after Game 4... -Big picture first: If you had told me back in March that the Boston Red Sox would be in a three game series that decides who wins the World Series Championship I would have called you a liar. I figured this team would finish in fourth at BEST in their own division. Cant forget that. -For Clay Buchholz to pitch four innings of three-hit ball when it didnt look like he could roll (much less throw) a ball 60 feet with any velocity on it was insanely ballsy. -Its a good thing that Jonny Baseball cranked out that missile, because the whole They just win with Gomes in the lineup! argument was beginning to get stale. -Coming into this series I didnt trust Felix Doubront at all. After two remarkable outings in a row, I recant all previous statements about how bad I think he is. It is now Craig Breslow who will make my head spin if I see him get the ball in a tight spot. -David Ortiz is now 8 for 11 in this series, good enough for a somewhat respectable .727 batting average. He now has a CAREER .436 batting average in 12 World Series games. Best of all-time with at least 50 at-bats. Is that good? Oh yea, dont forget he had a grand slam robbed from him by Beltran in Game 1. -Cant say enough about Allen Craig. Guy can barely walk, and he comes in for a pinch-hit double on Saturday (plus scored the winning run), and comes in for a pinch-hit frozen rope single on Sunday. Imagine if he was healthy enough to be in the lineup full-time? Scary. -That pinch-hit single by Craig would most likely have been a double for anyone else, were it not for a) his foot injury and b) a great play by Daniel Nava in right field to barehand it off the wall on a hop and get it back in quickly. If it had been a double, Kolten Wong comes in to run at second instead of first, and maybe the pickoff doesnt happen, and who friggin knows where we end up. -A walk-off obstruction one day, and a walk-off pickoff the next. Hashtag baseball.
