Randy Edwards claimed the Republican nomination for Weakley County Mayor in the Republican primary election on Tuesday. Edwards received 702 votes to win over fellow Republicans David Sudberry with 663 votes; Sharon alderman Jason Plunk with 522 votes, and Steve Blake with 472 votes. Edwards will face off against Democrat nominee Jake Watson and Independent candidate Jake Bynum in the August 7 General Election. Weakley Countian Jeff Parham claimed the title of Republican nominee for Circuit Court Judge for the 27th Judicial District that includes Weakley and Obion Counties. Parham defeated John Miles of Union City in Tuesday’s primary by 130 votes based upon totals from both counties. Parham received 1,887 votes to Miles’ 1,757. Parham won Weakley County 1,613 to 745. Miles won Obion County 1,012 to 274. Parham of Martin will face Democrat and independent candidates in the August general election. Steve Conley of Union City is the Democrat nominee and Kevin McAlpin of Dresden is an Independent candidate. These were the only two offices in which there was opposition in the Republican primary. There were no opposed offices to select a nominee in the Democrat primary. Democrat, Republican, and Independent candidates will face off in the August 7 General Election.
