Rankins Cricket Club 1st XI 165 for 10 beat Wakering CC 38 for 10 From the SOuthend Standard report = A match between these clubs took place on the ground at Broom Hills CC at Stambridge on Wednesday, and terminated in an easy victory for the home team by an innings and 73 runs. The Wakering team were exceedingly weak, the only one in the first innings making anything of a stand being the captain Mr J R Reeve (Ed. who was on the committee of Broom Hills CC in the 1883 season. In the second innings C Wiseman made a better stand and contributed 26 in dashing style; H Pettitt following in hais wake with 13. Neither of the others, however, made any stand at the wickets; in the first innings Wakering compiled 38 and in the second 60. For the home team G L reeve played a sound innings for 54, his play being clean and neat; while the catch in the slips by STeward which disposed of him was a remarkably good one. The next valuable contributor to the same side was Dr Young, his faultless innings of 37 was a splendid dispaly of good cricket and his defence was the admiration of the field.
