Rant. Many say buying from a kill buyer is still a life saved. That may be true, but by doing so you are contributing to what is quickly becoming a big business with both the kill buyers and their middle man laughing all the way to the bank while they take the sound and healthy horses over the border that they make even more money. A recent example is the Coast To Coast Draft Connection mega fundraiser before Christmas where the healthy drafts that bring the KB big $ still all shipped, but you didnt see that mentioned in the plea for donations. Yes, the KB had a very merry Christmas and is out there right now collecting more horses to repeat the scenario and double his money. And then there is another new trend. Private people have caught on to the mania and every day there are more and more listings for horses stating if the horse doesnt sell, its going to KB or auction & price is not negotiable. Here we go again. People with big hearts are sucked in and paying for these horses. Dangerous and foolish practice!! These horses always require significant rehab and medical care that likely exceed that owners non-negotiable price. Yes rescue angels, you saved a life, but at what cost? By paying for this horse you are putting thousands of others at extreme risk as their owners decide rather than surrender to a 501c3 rescue or private rescue and have them use their limited funds to help that horse, why not pocket some money in the process and use the buy now or goes to slaughter sell tactic. The whole situation is just very sad. Take a moment and read the article and think about it before you get sucked in to support this dangerous new trend.
