Rant:My son (almost 8, 2nd grade) came home today from school with his homework. A paper book on various holidays celebrated this time of year. Titled World Holidays. Christmas, Hanukkah, New Years, Chinese New Year, Kwanzaa, Holi, and Ramadan..... Is it horrible that my feelings are so hurt that there is no mention of Yule or Winter Solstice? Im not sure what to do with this..... I dont want to make a stink and become that parent. I keep thinking I should just write a little letter to the teacher explaining what we celebrate. I dont want to put any kind of target on his back, like my husband keeps reminding me.....I think this is one of my last straws.... One day (last month) my son came home complaining because another child kept telling him Zeus wasnt a real god. During the weekend we put our tree up and I was making conversation, asked the kids if they knew what type of tree this was, then if they knew why we bring these trees inside to decorate. He looked up at me and said because its Jesus birthday. Some other friends said that. So I told him they do it for that reason but we do not. Now this. Oh this year I honestly feel like I cant wait to get through these next couple of weeks and be done with it. ...and I feel like its horrible of me to feel this way. Sigh...
