Rant Warning! This is a RANT! You have been warned! Jim Harbaugh, the outgoing coach of the NFLs 49ers is headed to Michigan. Hell coach there at that university. Hes gonna get paid 5 million dollars a year for that. FIVE MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR to coach college football. Im sorry, but that just offends the hell out of me. A university thats spending that kind of money on its football program is not about amateur athletics. Not by any stretch of anyones imagination. Its just another level of pro sports and in my mind, thats really wrong. Its about gambling and big time TV contracts and big dollars and has nothing at all to do with an academic institutions purpose for being. And so 5 million dollars a year will go to the coach, plus benefits and other considerations. Gotta have those other considerations you know. Cant expect a guy to get by on 5 million dollars a year when hes faced with coaching a college football team. The scale of this whole thing is stupid and surely will lead to corruption and any other number of abuses. Penn State should have been a wakeup call. Guess not. That much money will insure bad behaviors. College? I think not. Stupid. Jim
