Rant alert :) So Katie Taylor fights in the Mansion House on the 29th November. Im a big fan, Im a massive advocate for the promotion of womens sport, I went to see her fight in London 2012, yet I dont think I will go and support. Why? For €50 I saw her fight in the quarter finals of London 2012, the real final as many said. I got to experience the Excel arena, and watch 3 other OLYMPIC quarter final fights. I soaked up the OLYMPIC experience, just seeing the OLYMPIC rings on a flag outside the stadium was worth the €50. It was without a doubt the best sporting event I have ever been at. Tickets for the Mansion house start at €40. I think a bit steep, and more to the point, what % of this is the promoter (afterdark.ie) getting? Also, what is the capacity of the Mansion House? Surely an event like this should be subsidised by the Irish Sports Council, or the IABA, so that tickets can be kept at a more accessible price to ensure maximum exposure? I admire Katie and her dogged determination to gain more exposure for womens boxing. Are events like these the way to go? Would it not be better to hold an event like this in a bigger venue, with cheaper tickets. More people = more exposure??? Thoughts?
