Rant on Rent : imagine what would happen if the prevailing logic of giving flats/rooms on rent was applied to all commercial transactions? Today one aunty in my locality agrees to buy potatoes at Rs.100/kilo from one chalaak vendor. Tomorrow, every vendor in the area is charging Rs.100/kilo saying that now that is the prevailing market rate. Thats how insane the rent situation in our major cities is. The richest 0.1% determine what the prices across the board will be. Its pure speculation; having no basis in reality. And its a direct vaccuuming of wealth from the working poor to the non-working rich. This needs regulation; some kind of upper cap on how much rent can be charged; how much brokers can charge. Fine, let the balance happen in black (itna rent white mein, itna black mein) : at least people will be aware of the distinction between whats acceptable and whats not!
