Ranting time. See that guy in the picture? With the funny hat? - TopicsExpress

Ranting time. See that guy in the picture? With the funny hat? Thats Michael Gungor. He is an incredible Christian musician-- one of the most innovative in the genre, in fact. Recently, people started noticing that his blog posts imply that he doesnt necessarily believe in a literal interpretation of Genesis. In response, many fans are excoriating him. Lifeway Christian Bookstores stopped carrying his bands albums. A few venues even cancelled his shows. I am boiling, boiling mad. FUNDAMENTALISM IS NOT THE ONLY WAY TO INTERPRET THE BIBLE. THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE INTERPRETATIONS FOR AS LONG AS CHRISTIANITY HAS EXISTED. SHUTTING THIS MAN OUT IS PETTY AND CRUEL. This is why I have come to hate the phrase Christian music, even though some of my favorite bands of all time come from that world. Ultimately, Christian music is nothing more than a marketing phrase, and it isolates those who take part in it (worship festivals, church shows, etc.) from the rest of the musical world, where there is still a lot of creativity going on, despite so many ignorant people complaining that Top 40 hits mean that todays music is all crap. Im glad House of Heroes, The Classic Crime, Children 18:3, and others have gone independent. I hope they can reach a crowd that is more appreciative of good music (and tolerant of other views) than these stubborn, reactive pigs. RANT OVER. Heres an interview if you want to hear things from Michaels perspective.
