Raoul Pantin is Gone: COP Salutes Veteran Journalist’s Contribution CHARLIEVILLE – The Trinidad Express has informed the nation of the passing of veteran journalist, Raoul Pantin today. The Congress of the People (COP) salutes the contribution of this veteran journalist and patriot in his career which spans the same period as our country as an independent nation. “Raoul Pantin established himself as a distinguished and exemplary journalist over all our years of independence working in print and electronic media as a reporter in different fields. As a political reporter and analyst, Raoul set the highest standards of professionalism and objectivity in his chosen field,” Political Leader of the COP said today. “Raoul Pantin was an accomplished writer not only as a reporter and journalist. He made very useful contributions to our national treasury of written works with the books he published recording seminal events in our history and development including the 1970 Black Power uprising, the 1990 Coup and the history of the Express with which he was associated for a long time. Many may not recall that he was the author of the screenplay of the acclaimed local movie, Bim. In this area of his creative endeavours he also wrote six plays and a collection of poems. He was an exemplar as a creative writer,” Ramadhar remarked. “In 1990 in the dark times of the events of July 27, Raoul took on a leadership role even when he was held hostage. His contribution to Trinidad and Tobago must be hailed and presented so that by his example, we may encourage another generation of true professionals in journalism to ensure that the legacy created by this true veteran and others can be imitated if not duplicated. Our nation has lost another good and loyal son. Our condolences go to Raoul’s family and loved ones, to his friends and colleagues in the fields of journalism and writing. Let us say thanks for his life and his most valuable contribution,” The COP Political Leader concluded.
