Rapidly coming to the Conclusion people want to insist its not all cops as a way to justify their own apathy. Were pretending one can still be a good cop by not being an Intentionally abusive person. We act like its only bad cops that rape or murder. Only bad cops racially profile, only bad cops abuse authority. If you dont act like that, youre a good cop. Never mind the fact youre paid to protect the public, but staying silent in front of bad cops is harming the public. Never mind the fact that youre paid to arrest criminals, but allowing bad cops to roam free isnt part of your job description. And we cosign it because it allows us a gray area. Sure *I* didnt tell the rape joke, I didnt use the racial slur, I didnt call out the misgendering... but Im good because Im not the active participant doing the bad stuff. Newsflash- staying silent when can you can do something isnt being good. Condoning bad behavior by remaining silent isnt being good. its helping the bad people feel more bold. Its letting bad people continue to actively pursue their abusive behaviors. So ask yourself- is the reason you wont call out the silent cops because you want stay silent in your everyday life?
