Rare Books Week is approaching. It will be held in Melbourne from Thursday 18th July to Sunday 28th. On offer are a range of talks, tours and exhibitions, culminating in the Antiquarian Book Fair at Wilson Hall, University of Melbourne from Friday evening, 26th July, to Sunday afternoon, 28th July. The programme is attached. Highlights include:- A talk by Des Cowley, Curator of Rare and Printed Collections at the State Library of Victoria, "Kelmscott Press to Wayzgoose Press: a century of private press books." Monday 22nd July. Tuesday 23rd July. Time 6-7pm Venue Melbourne Athenaeum Library First Floor, 188 Collins Street, Melbourne Phone +61 3 9650 3100 Email [email protected] Web melbourneathenaeum.org.au and an Exhibition opening:- "Libri: six centuries of Italian books," Presented by the Baillieu Library, University of Melbourne The exhibition will showcase books by or about Italians and Italy through the ages, highlighting the University Library Special Collections exciting new purchase of Aldus Manutius’s Hypnerotomachia Poliphili, printed in Venice in 1499. A fourteenth century musical manuscript will be shown, along with books focusing on important figures or movements such as Machiavelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Vasari, Palladio and futurism. Modern books by Italians now living in Australia will also be included. Wednesday 24th July.
