Rare footage of my DADs boat Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Wasp. After being hit by 3 Torpedoes in the battle of Guadalcanal by Japenese Sub I-19 on September 15th, 1942 the ship was lost. Because he was an Officer he was one of the last to leave the ship. The oil and aviation fuel covered the sea. For 20 hours many had to tread water and fire including him as the battle raged on. No rescue you were on your on with your mates. Japanese and American destroyers were launching depth charges and the underwater sonic concusion damaged his kidneys but went on to serve the Navy for 20 years. Today Thank You Dad and all like you who had the courage and bravery to defeat back then the Imperial Country of Japan.
