Rarely is a social media post of mine so solemn, but this talk delivered by Verna Myers lends a profound perspective of addressing bias in all of us, and I found it compelling enough to share. Stop trying to be good people, Myers said. We need real people. Getting real about racism is the only way to eradicate it within ourselves. If enough individuals take these steps, then eventually we will become a population of people who will not tolerate or enable deaths like Michael Brown and Eric Garners. We are pointing a lot of fingers at law enforcers, politicians, and institutions right now but to first change our culture and society we should look at ourselves.
