Rather than continue resenting another vacation-of-suckage and thinking up new reasons to loathe everyone involved in me shoveling mounds of dirt instead of reading, I decided to come up with what I’m thankful for out of it. 1. I’m outside in the sun and fresh air. 2. It’s 75 degrees. Not 95. Or 45. 3. While I end the day exhausted, I’ve spent a number of years at a gym that has taught me to hold and move my body in ways that don’t injure me when I do this kind of work. 4. With a little luck, when I’m done, we’ll sell the first of 3 properties we need to get rid of in order to buy the one we really want. 5. We have properties to sell that although not what they were pre-bubble, are now worth enough that we should be able to scrape up a sufficient amount for the down payment. 6. Without knowing we needed it for this, a friend found 20 yards of free fill dirt on Craigslist and had it delivered to our house at no charge. 7. I hate having to do it, but I am healthy and strong and CAN do it.
