Ravi Zecharias speaking. THE SEARCH FOR ABSOLUTES IN A PLURALISTIC SOCIETY, PART 2 OF 4 The secularization of society. Where religious ideas and institutions and interpretations have lost their social significance. How to live in a world that has lost its absolutes. The mindset. First MOOD. I still remember my professor who was an Anglican priest and also an athiest. He said he could not accept Christianity philosophically. American scene. It took America a long while before athieism became so strident in the North American context. It manifests in the social structures. Why it is that the culture is in crises because of LOST OF REASON. The North American Secularization. It is revealed by an inversion of language. Many years ago you had to borrow religious terminology. Emmanuel Kant. Soren Kierkegard. The world views they were communicating there were borrowing religioius ideas. Today you have to borrow secular terminology/ There is a prejudicial attitude that confirms it in our mind. Talk Show discusses a violitile issue. If you were to see on that panel an educator, an artist, a philosopher, a lawyer,..a medical doctor, a philosopher and put along with that whole group of people a minister...Who do you think the people watching will be prejudiced about. Today the moment the minister opens their mouth and starts to defend a moral assumption. Secularzation is so powerful...in our world today. There is a functional athieism today. Ive seen this happen time and time again. You may believe that religion does not have the right to dominate culture. Im not arguing for that. Today an idea cannot be introduced into a debate today if it is connected to a larger world view. Secularization reveals not only an inversion of language but in a prejudicial world view. Inversion of language and a prejudicial attitude. Questions that stalk your mind and my mind. C.S. Lewis. That great author who wrote a pilgrims regress. He moved with his struggles with pantheism and ( the book is allegoriaclly written...I found myself lost and trapped in the spirit of the age...I felt as if I was handcupped the whole time...I could not see us as human beings. He saw us as pure matter. As I struggled with my questions he never answered them. One day the waiter brought me my breakfast. I said, How delicious this milk was. He said, John you are calling it nourishing and good. Dont you know that milk is only the secretion of a cow like urine. I recoiled in horror. I did not know how to answer him. Lewis said, All of a sudden reason came to me. Sir you lie. You dont know the difference between what nature has meant for nourishment and what nature has meant for garbage.
