Ray Hamilton, for the most part, the agricultural forum mainly brought about points that have been discussed at numerous other forums. The discussion has gone to now who will the executive and legislative branch behave when it comes to properly funding the Dept of Agriculture because without a shift in thinking from those two branches, not much will generally happen. There is talks of considering an community initiative where certain individuals from the community will work with the committee in drafting legislation and the future design of agriculture in the Teritory. The idea, at least from the audience, is that this turns into an Agricultural Authority. The focus is on feeding the population and increasing the yield to do that, bring in a certain pricing system to make it more available for the public to purchase, there was also talks of exporting and possible markets as well as value added products which could lead into some sort of oil production. However, I believe that the focus will be on mangoes for export and not much else. There as talks of a possible feasibility study to determine exportable crops. That is it in a nut shell. The folks from Tibbar made a brief presentation of what they plan to do and how it ties into agriculture including the amount of land needed to do it and the discussion turned again to saving available farm land and making more available for use. I am sure between this and the talk shows you should be able to have a full idea of what was discussed at the meeting. :-)
