Ray Parlous sat down with Talksport this week and discussed one of the funniest stories youll ever hear about Kolo Toure or football in general. The Arsenal legend spoke about the day Toure came on trial at the North London club and how he went on an absolute rampage throughout the training session and still somehow convinced Arsene Wenger to shell out the money to secure his signature. The good thing about him, he always laughed at himself. Kolo Toure was a fantastic player - absolutely brilliant when he first came in. He was the kind of player that was on edge, always chasing everything. Anyway he came into training one day and what Wenger does for trialists is set up a game and hed put Martin Keown on him because he knows hes going to try and kick him and if he can handle that then he knows hell be a decent player. So against him on his first training session was Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp, I was playing on the right hand side and Wenger would sit there and we would do pattern play, so Id come inside and Henry would go outside. So they roll the ball into Thierry Henry and Kolo smashes him from behind, terrible tackle, two-footed tackle. Our best player is lying there on the floor rolling around. Arsene Wenger: Kolo, what are you doing?! Dont tackle! Next minute, balls goes into Dennis Bergkamp - Kolo Toure exactly the same, two-foots Dennis Bergkamp! Were thinking this is unbelievable. Our two best players, how can we win the league if our two best players were just taken out by the trialist. He must be working for someone else! So Wenger says, No more tackling! Next ball comes in and Kolo Toure makes a great tackle and the ball flicks up in the air and Kolo Toure with his eye on the ball - where does it land? Right at the feet of Arsene Wenger! Hes two-footed Arsene Wenger! Proper tackle. All you hear is ahhhh! The trialist has taken out Bergkamp, Henry, and Wenger on his trial. Wenger limps off and goes to the medical room. Toure is nearly crying and hes taken out two of our best players and the manager. I went into the medical room and Wenger is sitting there with an ice pack on his ankle and I felt sorry for Kolo Toure. And I said, I dont think he meant Boss. And Wenger said, I know he didnt mean, I like his desire. We sign him tomorrow!
