The decision reached by the State Security Council in the state to ban bikes for commercial use was announced by the state governor last week and it was received with mixed reactions.While some lauded it,some also faulted it especially when it was served with a very short notice(6 days notice) and I was among those who cried foul but haven heard directly from a senior member of the State Security Service,I had no other option,than to support the governor in his courageous decision.Yes,I have changed my mind and opinion on the order forbidding the use of motor bike for commercial purposes in Benin. The lorry you see in this picture,is among many chartered by some northern youths heading back home.This 911 is packed full with just bikes and they have been going home in their thousand.The information I gathered revealed that, some members of Boko Haram have actually infiltrated the state.In one Saturday alone,an estimated 2,000 members of BH fleeing the military offensive in the north,made their way to the state.Some of the members who were accosted,had bombs packed on their bikes and allowing them make Benin their safe haven was a risk too high to take.This explains the urgency in the ban order.The only option available to the governor as advised by the security council was to cut off their means of livelihood."He had no choice",according to the senior officer with S.S.S. Hope you understand.
