Ray’s Rounds for week commencing 28th July 2014 Individuals can make a difference! I congratulate Mr Mark Tranter from Hodgsonvale who has taken the initiative to start an online petition. The government recently released its PowerQ Strategy for the Electricity Industry which basically leaves solar panel owners out in the cold. Mr Tranter was one of many people incensed by Tim Nicholls remarks some weeks ago and turned his frustration to action. Go to https://communityrun.org/p/queenslandenergy if you also disagree with the governments changes in the incentives to go solar and add your name to Mr Tranters petition. I made my position clear on this subject through a recent Ray’s Rounds. While in Parliament last sitting, I questioned the Minister Ian Walker who had made statements about renewable energy. I raised with him the issue of a massive solar farm in the region waiting approval to go ahead and hitting nothing but brick walls and red tape. This solar power farm will not cost the State Government a cent. The assurances the Minister gave me are that his Department would look into this situation. Hansard records this assurance and I believe we will see some results. My office has recently received further concerns regarding Weapon Licences. There appears to be lengthy delays still occurring when constituents are either applying for or renewing their Weapon Licences. I will question the Minister why these delays are still occurring particularly when the appropriate paperwork and payment have been received, often well in advance. State Government issues cover a broad spectrum and I am happy to make the appropriate representation on behalf of my constituents either through the Department or the Minister in the hope that the matter will be resolved or at least further reviewed.
