Razor Blades in Apples is a Myth Too There are plenty of injuries to go around each October 31, but they are generally from overeating candy corn and getting tired legs as a result of prolonged trick-or-treating. One kid once died from Halloween candy in 1974, but that’s because his dad actually poisoned him in an attempt to get life insurance money, according to Live Science—not because a stranger was randomly trying to harm anonymous kids. Nearly 40 years later, though, the myth lives on that stranger danger is alive and well and lurking in miniature Snickers bars or via razor blades inserted into apples. The real crime, of course, is that anyone would even think about giving out apples on Halloween anyway.
