Re: DAngelo and The Vanguards Black Messiah **Please note that I will be updating this post as the spirit hits me.** Have you ever been gifted with something that you didnt realize you needed? That is this album. Its been 14 years, a long and taunting time since being teased with snippets by Questlove and repeated promises of a follow-up to his previous magnum opus, Voodoo. #BlackMessiah is at once powerful and vulnerable. Timely and Timeless. A bruise and a balm. It is nearly impossible to not move as the songs play. Hip Hop heads, musicians, Singers, Soul & Funk purveyors, and fans alike have found a home base. And he has indeed raised the bar. DAngelo is a musicians musician. Check Twitter. Check Instagram. There you have giants of music in their own right stumbling over themselves to profess their sincere respect and appreciation for what DAngelo is doing. There are influences on the album. Prince is unmistakable. As is James Brown. There are plenty of times when the vocals are garbled and you cant make out what he is saying. But you know hes saying something. Your tapping foot knows it. Your bobbing head knows it. Your closed eyes know it. Indeed your soul knows. And its enjoying what its being fed.
