Re. My interview on AIR Mumbai (in Konkani) on 2nd Nov.On My happy retired life) --As suggested by some friends who cldnt understand Konkani or failed to hear broadcast I intend to cover . points of interview (in parts if required). Some of the points were edited in the interview due to time constraint. Working background - Starting my career at an early age of 17 yrs in Pune Mpl. Corpn. and completing Ba., B.Com. as an external student joined Nationalized Bank in 1962 and retired in May 1995 Having worked for nearly 44 yhrs and also need to attend to domestic problems of Chronic health problem of my spouse i had decided no to seek any gainful employment thereafter and enjoy real retired life. Any feeling of sadness on the day of retirement - Not at all not a single day in these 20 yrs. Reasons for many people feeling depressed on retirement - Main reason is lack of preparation.. People going on overseas tours for 15/30 days make lot of preparations for getting Pass Port and Visas etc. but hardly make any preparation for this long tour in life which may well extend beyond 20 yrs with increased life expectancy.. Problems faced-- Sudden loss or reduction of income and/or perks (2\) Emptiness stage (3)In case not financially independent have to depend on assistance frm children (4)Sudden or gradual loss of power and autority both in the family and society (5) Problem of accommodation if not arranged before retirement specially for those who enjoy official quarters during their career.(6)Feeling of rejection (7) Feeling of useless or helplessness(8) Lack of security (9)Working daughters li law need dor baby care & Problems therefrom (10)Air & Noise pollution (11Loss of memory (12) Admission to old age homes (13) Mental illness (14) Loss of life partner (15)Little space for aged to sit & relax What r solutions to face problems and enjoy retired life - Barring unavoidable ailments we have to take care of our health all three - Physical, financial and mental. Physical Health. - Start taking care of health from beginning without waiting for retirement. Exercise, Yoga, Pranayam, morning walks Relaxation techniques like shavasana and yoganidra. I get up at 4 A.M do Pranayam & Yoga and then go for walk at 6 A. M. for about 80 Mts. walk about 6 K.Ms.. Thereafter also during day walk about 1-2 K.ms for daily errands like banking shopping. etc. Climb 3rd floor house 4/5 tims a day Feel sorry to observe young people taking public transport (Bus or cabs) for a short distance of 2-3 stops. Walk walk for health , avoid lifts whenever possible. (Financial and and mental health will be covered in next part/s)
