Re: Osun 2014: Students deny endorsing Aregbesola With disgust, I read a report in the Punch today by students who operate under the platform of Osun State Students Union. With the caption, Osun 2014: Students deny endorsing Aregbesola, I couldnt but laugh because it was a misguided statement. The two bodies that earlier endorsed Ogbeni, National Association of Osun Students (NAOSS) and Joint Campus Committee of NANS are authentic because the two bodies have existed for long and if youve been following events in the State, youll discover that OSSU was brought up days ago to counter the endorsement of Ogbeni by two legitimate bodies. As somebody who knows what goes on in students unionism, the president of the fictitious union, Omisakin Waheed, was a student at the department of Local Government Studies, OAU. He wanted to be president of NASLOGOS, the umbrella body of the department in 2012 but he was squarely defeated before he was compensated with the president of National Ife Descendant Union (NIDSA). At NIDSA, he was almost impeached due to financial and administratively recklessness before his subjects were begged to allow him complete his tenure. I could recall how he personalized the 14-seater bus donated by the Executive Secretary of Ife Central Local Government, Dr. Taiwo Olaiya. I was surprised when I heard his name as president of a students body having graduated years back from OAU. Omisakin Waheed went intellectually berserk and told Punch that Ogbeni has destroyed the state’s education sector and should not be seen as enjoying the support of students in the state. Has he forgotten that OAU, his alma mater, is still enmeshed in crisis over the 322er cent increment in tuition fee by the PDP led Federal Government under whose platform their paymaster is contesting? Is Ogbeni responsible for that? Also, a certain Bashir Saheed, who parades himself as Union President of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Bashir Saheed was also a signatory to the purported statement. I wonder where we are going in this country. Se boju a ja balewo, se enu adiye low tosi? Is Ogbeni responsible for the II-month strike embarked upon by ASUP or is Federal Polytechnic, Ede, a state-owned institution? Another one is Momodu Daniel who calls himself the coordinator of Coalition of Osun State Students’ Movement. Apart from the fact that hes a 400 level political science student of OAU and secretary of NANS, I would have been disappointed if he hadnt done this. Its unfortunate that Godson as we fondly called Momodu can be part of this lies, orchestrated to score cheap political point. But unfortunately, the people of the State knows the best governor so far in their history. Its only when PDP is out of power that they know solutions to every problem! In summary, the statement credited to his impersonators should be treated as misguided and misleading as the authentic students bodies in the State have shown their support for Aregbesola who has changed the face of everything, especially education in the State of Osun.
