Re: Oyo people want me back Ladoja 11.Aug.2014 Your newspaper’s interview with the former Governor of Oyo State, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, was interesting. One finds it ‘interesting’ that a 70-year-old man is still aspiring to be governor in Nigeria. Moreso is his comparing himself with former Governor Adefarati of Ondo State, Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State and the recently impeached Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State who a or were in their 70s. The question is that, is there any correlation between old age and performance? The answer is definitely No. It is to be noted that his administration’s achievement was low as he only carried out one or two projects in Ibadan. There were only few outside the state capital. Even then the much talked about prompt payment of salaries during his tenure is not worth beating one’s chest for, because it is a moral responsibility to pay workers as and when due. Ladoja should know that it is not just enough for governors to dream but they also need the verve to actualise the dreams. The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is in his 50s, performing governors like Fashola of Lagos State, Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, Amaechi of Rivers State, Mimiko of Ondo State and former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi are in their 40s and 50s. One then wonders why a 70-year-old grandfather is still interested in the governorship seat when even Supreme Court justices are made to go home to rest at that age. Oyo State does not need governors in their sixties and seventies but virile and active ones in their forties and 50s.
